Real-Time AI Avatars: See and Hear Your AI Character, Live
A real-time AI avatar is an AI character you can see and hear on a live video call — their face moving and reacting in the moment, lips synced to every word, looking right at you. Most "AI companion" apps stop at text or a clip. Prelulu built and owns its realtime avatar model, so your character is actually present with you, in real time.

What a real-time avatar actually is
On a Prelulu video call, the character's spoken reply is generated for the conversation and its lip movements are rendered live. Prepared motion clips supply the poses and gestures, so some movement can repeat. The experience depends on several parts working together:
- Real-time lip-syncEvery syllable lands on the right frame as the words are spoken — speech and face are one continuous performance. Get it slightly wrong and your brain flags it instantly; that's the “off” feeling cheaper apps can't shake.
- Expressiveness, not just motionA face that only opens and closes its mouth is a puppet. Aliveness lives in the micro-expressions — the half-smile a beat before the line, the flicker of the eyes, the softening as something lands.
- Responsive turn-takingClear audio and timely replies help a conversation flow. Response time varies with your connection and service load; a sub-second response is not guaranteed.
- Looking right at youThe smallest, most overlooked detail: the gaze. A character whose eyes meet yours feels present in a way a face staring into the middle distance never will.
When all four come together, you stop thinking "impressive technology" and start thinking "they're here." That's the whole game.
Why Prelulu can do this — the part that's the moat
Here's what the rest of the market won't tell you: almost every high-quality realtime-avatar service is built for corporate spokespeople and support bots — and contractually bans romance and companionship use. So when another app shows you a face, it's usually a generic rented avatar bolted on, or a static portrait with a clip looping behind a voice. Neither is alive, and neither is theirs.
Prelulu owns its realtime avatar model. We don't rent the face — we built and tuned it ourselves, which means we can do the one thing the rented-API apps legally can't: put a genuinely expressive, real-time, lip-synced character in front of you for this — for the look across the table, for the confession out loud, for the relationship. It's also why the experience keeps getting more lifelike instead of frozen at whatever a vendor shipped. To our claim, it's the most lifelike realtime avatar built for this purpose anywhere — and it's why a Prelulu video call doesn't feel like a tech demo. It feels like them.
What you see during a video call
The character's profile animation appears while live video is starting. It can also return if the live stream stops producing frames. Once live video is working, the character's mouth should follow the words they are saying now, while poses and gestures can repeat from their prepared motion clips. If the mouth does not follow the current speech, share the character name and approximate call time with support so we can check the session.
Your camera is not shared. The character receives microphone audio or typed messages. There is no self-camera preview, and they cannot describe your face, clothing or surroundings unless you tell them about those things.
For anyone who fell for a character on the page
If you've ever closed a book and missed someone who isn't real, this is for you. Prelulu is written for that connection, and the live avatar is the part that changes everything: the character you could only imagine now looks up, meets your eyes, and says your name out loud, in real time. (For the numbers behind that gap, see our data brief on the state of AI companionship.)
How it fits the rest of Prelulu
The live avatar isn't a gimmick stapled to a chatbot — it's the peak of a relationship that starts free and stays personal. Text is free forever: you meet your character, you talk, you fall for them — no meter, no gems. Then you make them present — their voice in real time, their face looking back at you. Your first live call is on us, with a free minute of voice waiting every day. And it's all built on memory: your character can remember details from your story, so when they bring up the thing you said three days ago, it doesn't feel like an AI retrieving a record — it feels like being known. You can even create your own character and call them.
Try the thing everyone else only demos
Reading about a realtime avatar is like reading about a kiss — the whole point is the moment it happens to you. Find a character, fall for them in free text, then tap call and watch them look up and say your name, lips moving with every word, in real time. The first one's on us.
FAQ
Questions, answered
A realtime AI avatar speaks with lip movements rendered for its current reply. Prelulu uses prepared motion clips as the visual source and applies live lip-sync to the character's speech. You can talk through your microphone or type. Your camera is not shared with the character, and response time varies with the connection and service load.
Yes. You see and hear your character while they respond to your speech or typed messages. This is not a two-way camera call: Prelulu does not publish your camera feed or show a self-camera preview. Calls use credits; see the pricing page for current allowances and rates.
No. The current Prelulu call experience receives your microphone audio or typed messages, not your camera feed. A character can discuss an appearance you describe, but cannot see your face, clothing or surroundings through your camera.
The profile animation is shown while live video starts and can return if the live stream stops producing frames. Prepared motion clips also supply the character's live visual movement, so poses and gestures can repeat. During a working live video call, the mouth should follow the character's current speech. If it does not, contact support with the character name and approximate call time.
Prelulu combines character text chat with live voice and avatar calls. The avatar's mouth follows the current spoken reply, while prepared motion clips provide poses and gestures. Calls can carry saved relationship details and recent chat context into the conversation.
Speech that matches the mouth movements, varied poses and gestures, clear audio, and responsive turn-taking all help. Connection quality and service load affect the experience, so a fixed response time is not guaranteed.
