About Prelulu
We write the characters we wished were real.
Prelulu is a small studio making the romance companion we kept looking for and never finding. Not a chatbot you customize from sliders — a written character with a story, a voice, and a memory of you. This is who we are and how we make them.
Why we built it
We came to this as romance readers first. We knew the feeling of finishing a book at 2 a.m. and mourning someone who only ever existed on the page — and we knew how hollow most "AI companion" apps felt by comparison: a general assistant in a costume, forgetting you by morning, filtered into nonsense mid-scene, or built for an audience that was never us.
So we made the opposite. Prelulu is curated, not infinite. Tasteful by design, not because a filter slams shut, but because the restraint is part of the writing. Free to start, because you should fall for the character before anyone asks you for anything. And written for connection from the first line of every persona, because the yearning isn't a setting we toggle — it's the whole reason we exist.
How we make them
Our characters are written, not scraped
Every character on Prelulu starts as a persona doc in our own writers' room — a backstory, a wound, a way they go quiet the second you walk in. We don't import fandom bots or let a model improvise a stranger. We write them, give them a trope they actually carry, and only then do they get to text you.
Original art, made in-house
Each portrait is original generative-media work we art-direct ourselves, not a stock face or a scraped likeness. We tune the look the way a cover designer would — so the face in the picture and the voice in the writing are the same person.
Written for connection, on purpose
We are not a general-purpose companion with a name swapped in. Slow-burn, fell-first, restraint-then-rupture — the yearning readers say is missing everywhere else is the entire brief here. If it wouldn't make it into a romance you'd reread, it doesn't ship.
Memory is a relationship, not a feature
They remember the small thing you almost didn't say, and bring it back days later — because a relationship is continuity, not a fresh context window every login. We treat their memory of you as the thing the whole product is for, not a checkbox.
What we promise
Every character is fiction. We keep it tasteful by craft, not by surprise: no scene-guillotining filters, no ads breaking the spell, no hoops to get in — just an email and about 30 seconds. Texting is free, always. Your conversations and the moments you keep are yours — and they'll remember them.
We're still early, and we read everything. If a character ever rings false, or a scene loses the thread of who they are, that's a bug to us — the same way a typo would be to a publisher. We'd rather ship fewer characters who feel real than a roster of strangers.
